Vertellus Receives FSSC 22000 Certification for Production of Niacinamide USP
Indianapolis, Ind. (PRWEB) October 22, 2014 -- Vertellus Agriculture & Nutrition Specialties LLC has received FSSC 22000 certification for production of Niacinamide USP at its Indianapolis (USA) manufacturing facility. The FSSC 22000 certification was awarded to Vertellus following an audit completed by SGS, a global leader in the inspection, verification, testing and certification of food and ingredient manufacturers.
The voluntary certification is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is based on ISO standards. FSSC 22000 certification affirms that Vertellus’ Indianapolis plant manufactures Niacinamide USP that meets the requirements of global retailers and major branded food companies under a single, internationally recognized food safety management system. The certification further signifies that Vertellus’ niacinamide production facilities have implemented a robust food safety management system.
Vertellus pursued the voluntary certification as a critical component of its food safety culture and to emphasize its dedication to ensuring the quality and safety of products it produces for consumers around the globe. Commenting on the certification, Vertellus Nutrition Business Director Bernie Szalkowski stated, “The FSSC 22000 certification shows Vertellus’ commitment to maintaining high quality facility standards and providing customers with products that ensure consumer trust in our vitamin B3 supply.”
Dr. Owen Hand, director of global quality and analytical sciences at Vertellus, said the FSSC 22000 designation serves as a global benchmark of manufacturing integrity and provides food distributors, retailers and consumers with assurance that the safety management program Vertellus employs in the manufacture of niacinamide meets high quality standards. “As our nutrition business opportunities expand at Vertellus, we continue to develop a food and feed safety culture,” Hand said. He noted that successful implementation of programs such as FSSC 22000 and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) process reflect Vertellus’ commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of its production processes.
Vertellus also utilizes the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements of title 21 Code of Regulations part 110, applicable to manufacturing, packing or holding human food. In addition, Vertellus’ Indianapolis niacinamide production facility processes follow title 21 CFR part 120, the HACCP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point process to further ensure the safety of niacinamide produced for consumers.
The FSSC 22000 is just the latest certification Vertellus has received for its niacinamide production processes. The plant has also received ISO 9001:2008, FAMI-QS, Kosher and Halal certifications.
Vertellus is a global leader in the manufacture of niacinamide. In March 2014, the company completed debottlenecking and infrastructure improvements at its Indianapolis-based niacinamide manufacturing facility, enabling a 30 percent increase in production capacity.
