HIPAA Secure Now! Offers HIPAA risk assessment and other compliance services to American Osteopathic Association.

"Physicians in private practice are under greater scrutiny to secure patient records, based on HIPAA rules. At a minimum they should perform a risk assessment to show where patient data is stored and accessed, by whom and for what reasons."

HIPAA Secure Now! has forged a partnership with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to help members become fully compliant with HIPAA rules for protecting electronic protected health information (ePHI). Members will have access to HIPAA Secure Now’s portfolio of services, including security risk assessment, policies and procedures, and employee training, created specifically for small and mid-sized medical practices.

HIPAA Secure Now will be available to answer AOA members’ questions at the upcoming Annual Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition, October 26 through 29 in Seattle. Attendees are invited to stop by the company's booth number 1041 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.

“With an increasing number of HIPAA audits and the recent wave of patient data breaches at hospitals across the U.S., physicians in private practice are under greater scrutiny for securing their own patient records under HIPAA rules,” said Art Gross, CEO of HIPAA Secure Now!.

“At a minimum they should perform a risk assessment to determine where their patient information is stored and accessed, by whom and for what reasons. HIPAA Secure Now! helps practices identify their risks for a HIPAA violation and recommends the most effective steps to lower them. We look forward to serving AOA members and making this process painless for them.”

The AOA represents 104,000 osteopathic physicians and medical students, serving as the primary certifying body for doctors of osteopathy (DOs) and acting as the accrediting agency for all osteopathic medical schools. DOs are one of the fastest-growing segments of healthcare professionals in the US, with an estimated 100,000 in medical practice by 2020. These physicians practice the philosophy of treating the whole person to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases.

HIPAA Secure Now! will provide DO members of the AOA the HIPAA compliance help they need at a special discount rate. Through its risk assessment program, HIPAA Secure Now! identifies possible risks of storing and transmitting ePHI from the systems and devices used by the DO’s practice. The company helps clients avoid potential threats and unexpected breaches. It gives members online access to policies and procedures and trains employees in recognizing situations that could put the practice at risk for exposing confidential information online. The entire process, from risk assessment to completion of training can be done in less than four hours.

HIPAA Secure Now’s services are particularly helpful for members that participate in the Meaningful Use EHR (electronic health records) incentive program. The company will provide the required HIPAA security risk assessment and develop an action plan to address any security deficiencies, satisfying a core objective of meaningful use, stages one and two.
