On Friday, October 24th 2014, the Metro Detroit Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women will be guided through the National Geographic’s Women of Vision exhibit by Cranbrook staff member Janet Beylan. Women of Vision was curated by National Geographic Senior Photo Editor Elizabeth Krist, who selected the images that best represent the broad portfolios of 11 extraordinary female photographers.
Touring this exhibit is an exciting way to honor our chapter’s first anniversary and United Nation Day, states chapter President Lori Blaker. “This exhibit aligns with the values and aspirations of our chapter. It reflects the extraordinary strength and power of women around the world and the breath of their diversity. This exhibit is emotionally provocative and brings difficult issues to the forefront. It makes for a memorable experience.”
Women of Vision is a tribute to the spirit and the ambition of these journalists and artists who have created riveting experiences for millions through the insightful, sensitive, and strategic use of a camera. Their stories explore the realities of our world and the depths of what it means to be human in the 21st Century.
Fellow chapter member and writer Maureen McDonald will join the tour and discuss her adventures in co-authoring the book “One World”. The book is on display at the Women of Vision exhibit and examines the beauty of the diverse human population.
The event is being co-sponsored by TTi Global and Lisa Stella of Stella Wealth Management at Raymond James. The group tour is open to members and non-members alike. Individuals interested in participating in the tour may reserve their space by calling 248-853-5550.
