Each person’s background and experiences are different. Leaders must give consideration to others’ country cultures as well as their corporate cultures to create synergy and generate collaboration.

Trinity University, ranked Best in the West by U.S. News and World Report for the 23rd consecutive year, hosted its 5th U.S. - China Symposium on October 8, 2014. Each year the event centers on US - China cross-cultural conflicts and solutions. Barbara A. F. Greene, Founder and CEO of Greene and Associates, Inc., the San Antonio office of Career Partners International, a leading global provider of outplacement, career transition, executive coaching and other talent management services, was invited and featured as one of four speakers at the symposium.

Other speakers included Joe Ochoa, Chief Executive Officer of O&P Enterprise Ltd.; David Hendricks, San Antonio Express – News Business Writer and Columnist; and James Nelson, Executive Vice President of International Software, Asia/Pacific.

One of the main features of the event was the speakers' unique stories from their own experiences. As a female chief executive officer and an expert in the executive coaching industry, Greene spoke about her experiences coaching global managers from different parts of the world.

“Having coached leaders from numerous countries through a variety of complex and challenging business initiatives, I’d say relationships are vital to a leader’s success,” commented Greene. “Each person’s background and experiences are different. Leaders must give consideration to others’ country cultures as well as their corporate cultures to create synergy and generate collaboration.”

Symposium attendees included Trinity students and faculty as well as area business leaders and policy makers. Afterwards, there was an opportunity for questions and interaction with the speakers. The event was a success, with an increase in participation compared to last year.

An active business leader and generous contributor to the San Antonio community, Greene is renowned for her involvement in events such as this symposium. She recently led a workshop which provided students with tips to build relationships particularly with alumni for Trinity University’s Student Networking Event during its annual Week of Making Connections. She also moderated a panel of female business leaders during the 2014 Greater San Antonio Women in Leadership Symposium sponsored by the Texas Diversity Council where the panel discussed the importance of professional development, networking and its role in business, and multiple opportunities relevant to women in leadership positions.

Greene is also engaged with the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Women Business Owners, the American Society for Training and Development, the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind Advisory Council, National Socitey of Hispanic MBAs and the Texas Diversity Council.
