Jeff Schwartz of Ringling College of Art and Design Wins SECAC Award for Excellence in Teaching
Carrboro, NC (PRWEB) October 21, 2014 -- The Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) today announced that Jeff Schwartz of Ringling College of Art and Design has won the SECAC Award for Excellence in Teaching. The SECAC Award is given in recognition of outstanding teaching by a SECAC member who demonstrates an exceptional command of his or her discipline through the ability to teach effectively, impart knowledge, and inspire students.
Jurors noted that Professor Schwartz had an impressive list of accomplishments with the most impressive being strong responses from students. Typical of comments made by his students were one such as this, "I wish all of my teachers were this involved. One of the only instructors I've come across who hasn't tried to force students in one common direction--instead, he helps each student identify their individual strengths and weaknesses--truly outstanding."
Schwartz also served as conference director for the spectacular 70th meeting of SECAC held this year in Sarasota Florida, hosted by the Ringling College of Art and Design.
SECAC facilitates cooperation and fosters on-going dialog about pertinent creative, scholarly and educational issues between teacher and administrators in universities, colleges, community colleges, professional art schools, and museums. Although the organization represents the 12 states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, members are located across the United States and abroad.
SECAC fulfills its purpose in part by sponsoring an annual fall conference, hosted by an institution of higher learning. The conference provides members with a forum for the exchange of ideas and concerns relevant to the practice and study of art. The organization also publishes a newsletter and the scholarly journal the SECAC Review.
