International L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest for Speculative Fiction Has Entrants from 148 Cities Around the Globe
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2014 -- Offices of the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future contest announced the review of entrants from around the world including the top five cities that entries have come from for the 3rd quarter. They are:
1. Los Angeles, USA
3. New York City, USA
4. London, England
5. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
"We have entrants from cities as diverse as Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Cottonwood, Minnesota," said contest Director Joni Labaqui.
Other notable aspects of contest entrants for the third quarter are that the majority were female, but not by a large margin, and two thirds of all entrants are students. Our youngest entrant this quarter was a fourteen-year-old female from Texas and our oldest was a sixty-four year-old male from Colorado.
The winning illustrators illustrate the winning stories of the sister contest, Writers of the Future.
Now in its 26th year, the Illustrators of the Future Contest began in 1988 and attracts entries worldwide in science fiction and fantasy. Twelve quarterly winners receive prize monies and, along with selected finalists, are published in an annual anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future (Galaxy Press).
The book is sold in bookstores and at Amazon.com and gives the winners the exposure that they need.
Inspired by multiple New York Times best-selling author L. Ron Hubbard, the merit-based Writers and illustrators of the Future Contest was initiated by him to discover and encourage talented beginning writers and illustrators of science fiction and fantasy, and thus launch careers.
The idea has proved very successful. Hundreds of winners have had successful writing and illustration careers following their win and publication in the anthology.
