Decatur, Alabama (PRWEB) October 23, 2014 -- The company’s team, led by Beckie Patrick, Tina Wiggs, and Kathy Greenwell, surpassed their 2013 results by $45,000 and more than doubled the 2012 results of $60,000. This year’s achievement placed the Wayne Farms Decatur Relay team 2nd out of 103 Relays in the state of Alabama; 5th out of 549 Relays in the Mid-South region and 8th nationally out of 4,898 Relays.
Don Dubnik, Senior Director of Operations for the Wayne Farms FP Business Unit commented: “I am more than proud of the hard work and dedication of the entire Wayne Farms Decatur team. They have achieved tremendous success, more than doubling their fundraising efforts in just three years and have now garnered national attention. And knowing these funds go toward battling a disease that affects everyone in some way makes the long hours that much more rewarding.”
In addition to the Relay for Life event held on June 20th at Ingall’s Harbor in Decatur, the Relay team also hosted two golf tournaments, coordinated bake sales and auctions, and accepted employee donations throughout the year.

About Relay for Life
Relay for Life is an annual fundraising initiative of the American Cancer Society. The first team Relay was held in 1986, and was the brainchild of Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Washington colorectal surgeon who wanted to find a way for everyone to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those lost and get inspired to fight back. Since that first event, millions of people around the world have participated in Relay for Life, making it the largest fundraising event in history.
