SelectAccount Business Partners Receive Awards from the Institute for HealthCare Consumerism
Eagan, MN (PRWEB) October 23, 2014 -- SelectAccount, a leading medical savings administrator, today announced that two of their business partners were receiving a 2014 SuperStars and Innovators Award from The Institute for HealthCare Consumerism (IHC). The awards will be presented at the IHC Forum in Las Vegas which takes place from November 10-12, 2014.
Lisa Schlafmann, Director of Benefits and Compensation for MDU Resources, headquartered in Bismarck, ND, with over 9,100 employees working across the country in 70 companies, will receive the “Most Innovative Education/Communication Award.” Lisa is responsible for reaching each individual employee with quality education and informative benefit communications. Despite the increasing cost of health care and the changes brought about with the Affordable Care Act, Lisa saw the value of a high deductible health plan offering paired with a health savings account. That led to offering employees a choice and provided ongoing education emphasizing health care consumerism. Lisa supported employee education through mandatory meetings and ongoing communications. This has resulted in a steady migration to the HDHP with HSA participation almost doubling in the past two years. Lisa continues to focus on providing education on the transformation from medical spending accounts to health savings accounts - using them as a savings tool for future health care expenditures. Lisa is now addressing the value of an HSA as a retirement investment vehicle using IRAs and 401(k)s as a comparison for maximum tax saving when using an HSA for qualified medical expenses after age 65. Lisa is looking forward to the impact of this employee education on 2015 HSA account funding levels. She believes that it’s about keeping employees educated on the value of the benefits MDU provides and helping them make the right decision for themselves. And she’s seen positive results year after year.
Kim Wagner of Preferred Benefit Concepts in Eden Prairie, MN received the Most Innovative Partner-Consultant award, which goes to a consultant who works most effectively with an HR/Benefits team to implement a health care or benefits program. Kim has over 20 years of consulting experience, entering the business at a time when medical spending accounts were just being introduced. Kim quickly saw the benefit of a high deductible health plan (HDHP) paired with a health savings account (HSA) when they were introduced in 2004. Kim believes strongly in the benefit of educating employees to be better health care consumers. Kim works with many large clients which can be challenging when dealing with layers of resistance. Kim embraces these challenges and works to ensure that all challenges are met. Kim’s strength in reaching out to all employees with quality education and informative benefit communications is recognized by her clients. They benefit from her expertise in managing employee change, controlling costs, and guiding their employees with ongoing education emphasizing health care consumerism.
