Virginia529 College Savings Plan Received Nod in National Ranking
Richmond, Virginia (PRWEB) October 24, 2014 -- Two Virginia529 College Savings Plan programs earned Silver medal rankings from investment research firm Morningstar in results released Tuesday of its 2014 review of the largest 529 college savings plans.
The direct-sold program Virginia529 inVEST (inVEST) moved up to Silver from its Bronze rank in 2013. Morningstar praised inVEST’s “diversified portfolios, strong underlying funds, and recent fee reduction.” inVEST offers a variety of investment options managed by highly-regarded investment groups such as Vanguard, American Funds and Aberdeen.
CollegeAmerica, the advisor-sold program sponsored by Virginia529 and featuring investment options from American Funds, maintained its Silver medal position in 2014’s list. CollegeAmerica is the only advisor program to achieve such a high ranking by Morningstar in 2014.
Kathryn Spica, senior analyst for Morningstar, wrote that “Gold- and Silver-rated plans are those that our analysts consider the most appealing to college savers, with reasonable fees, strong investment options, and capable oversight.”
The Morningstar analysis of inVEST praised its “sensible approach in blending active and passive management” in its investment options, noting that “[t]his balance keeps costs in check while retaining the potential for outperformance.”
Morningstar evaluated 64 plans, awarding eight Gold and Silver medals including the two earned by Virginia529 programs.
