Great Lakes Computer Takes Strategic Inventory Position on IBM x86 Servers
(PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- Great Lakes Computer, a datacenter solutions provider for nearly three decades, has recently made a large investment in IBM System x3550 M4 and IBM System x3650 M4 rack servers as well as IBM BladeCenter HS23 blade servers in reaction to Lenovo’s October 1st acquisition of IBM’s x86 server business.
As a result of this acquisition, the distribution channel for IBM’s x86 servers is experiencing constraint, causing uncertainty for those currently standardized on these platforms. In order to better support these customers, Great Lakes Computer has taken this strategic inventory position to provide a stable option for sourcing this equipment.
The distribution channel will become even more constrained beginning in December due to the recent release of last order dates for the most popular IBM x86 servers. The IBM BladeCenter HS23, IBM x3650 M4, and IBM x3550 M4 all have a last order date starting at 12/14 with a final cut-off date of all models in 12/16.
Great Lakes Computer’s President released a statement on their inventory position, “Due to uncertainty in the distribution channel and now with the release of the last order dates, it will become increasingly difficult for current IBM x86 server customers to accommodate standardized environments. We’ve taken this strategic inventory position to ease their difficulty and provide support during this challenging process.”
By sourcing the below SKUs of each model, Great Lakes Computer's configure-to-order process enables them to provide customers with any configuration of processors, memory, and hard drives that they require.
