Local Chiropractor Serves as Team Physician for Wounded Warrior Softball Team
Springfield, Il (PRWEB) October 28, 2014 -- Springfield, IL recently welcomed the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team to play in the Wounded Warrior Softball Invitational, and local chiropractor Dr. Bryne Willey of AlignLife of Springfield was asked to be the team physician for the event. The team is a charitable organization whose mission is to raise awareness, educate and inspire the public about the strength and resiliency of our wounded warriors, showing how a positive attitude, commitment, dedication and perseverance allow them to overcome any obstacles. The Team is comprised of veterans and active-duty servicemen who have served our country in the Global War on Terrorism, in Iraq and in Afghanistan. They now travel the country playing abled-bodied teams in competitive, celebrity and exhibition softball games, bringing their special brand of softball, courage and inspiration. When asked to volunteer his services for the team, Dr. Willey jumped at the chance. “I don’t even think Nick [Zummo, tournament organizer] finished asking me the question before I told him I was in. These men, and so many other many men and women, have dedicated their lives to protect mine and my family’s, and to have a chance to give back even a fraction of what they have given was an opportunity I would never pass up. “
The team is comprised of young, competitive, athletic veterans and active duty soldiers who have lost limbs post-9/11, while serving their country in the military/war. The team includes individuals with a variety of amputations of the arm, above knee, below knee, bilateral below knee, and foot. Remarked Dr. Willey, “I don’t think the average person understands the impact that a prosthetic can have on the rest of the body. These guys have to learn all new mechanics to perform the same tasks they did before, and that can put a lot of negative stress on areas of the body.” Through chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic stretching, and soft tissue techniques, Dr. Willey was able to help treat the team through the rigors of full speed competition and heat of the unseasonably warm weekend.
