OPTi Technologies, Inc. Acquires TranSwitch’s IC Business
MILPITAS Calif. (PRWEB) October 27, 2014 -- OPTi Technologies, Inc. (“OPTi”), a leader in I/O IC solutions, today announced the acquisition of the high-speed IC business, formerly known as the HDplay™ product line, from TranSwitch Corp. on September 29, 2014. These solutions are being re-launched by OPTi under the same product family names Dolphin™ and Flipper™. The Dolphin line, which includes the TXC-44144 and TXC-44146 products, supports both HDMI® and DisplayPort™ connectivity. The Flipper line, which includes the TXC-44151, TXC-44152 and TXC-44155 products, combines HDMI, DisplayPort and MHL™ connectivity in a single IC.
“We are extremely excited to add TranSwitch’s award-winning transceivers to our portfolio of world-class I/O solutions,” said Ming Hsu, Chairman and CEO of OPTi Technologies. “These transceivers have powered some of the industry’s most successful multimedia devices, from projectors to interactive whiteboards. Leveraging OPTi’s’ supply-chain prowess, global network and strong Asian presence, we are confident in our ability to provide superior support to existing customers while growing the business. Dolphin and Flipper products are still the industry’s only available solutions that provide a unified I/O audio/video interface. We look forward to bringing the tremendous performance and integration advantages offered by our Dolphin and Flipper solutions to additional OEMs and ODMs.”
The consumer electronics industry is currently facing a connectivity challenge. While HDMI has been the dominant standard for several years, DisplayPort and MHL connectivity is being increasingly adopted. This has driven OEMs and ODMs to develop new display products, including televisions, projectors, and A/V receivers with HDMI/DisplayPort or HDMI/DisplayPort/MHL connectivity.
OPTi Technologies’ Dolphin and Flipper solutions have been developed to provide a pragmatic solution to this connectivity challenge. Dolphin products are the industry’s only solution that combines both HDMI and DisplayPort on a single integrated circuit. Flipper products add MHL support to this unique, single-IC design. This level of integration helps manufacturers to simplify design, reduce bill of material cost, complexity and space requirements, while speeding time-to-market.
With Dolphin or Flipper transceivers powering a television, projector, A/V switch, gaming accessory or dongle, end-users are able to conveniently connect a wide range of multimedia devices, such as Blue-ray players, computers, smartphones, tablets and gaming systems, without an external video converter. Dolphin and Flipper products also deliver exceptional performance to provide the end-user with crystal clear video and audio, as well as the ability to quickly switch between inputs of different standards. Devices that leverage Dolphin and Flipper solutions also allow users to confidently select long and inexpensive cables, over 15 meters, while maintaining HDMI 1.4 performance. The end result is an enhanced user experience that delivers an advantage to manufacturers in the increasingly competitive consumer electronics market.
