On Tuesday, October 28, 2014, the Clayton-Henry County National Action Network Chapter (NAN) and the Friends of Clayton Transit (FCT) is hosting a press conference and rally, welcoming to Clayton County the Reverend Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network, for the 2014 Hands Up VOTE! Tour. The morning event will be one of 2 major events set for the day.
Friends of Clayton Transit will kick-off the day with their Coalition Partners Press Conference at 11:00 a.m. Speakers of the day will include: Roberta Abdul-Salaam of Friends of Clayton Transit, President of NAN Clayton-Henry Chapter Reverend Jeffery Benoit and Reverend Al Sharpton-Founder and President of the National Action Network a host of others.
"Transit Matters to the citizens of Clayton County," said Roberta Abdul-Salaam, one of the Coalition leaders of Friends of Clayton Transit. Friends of Clayton Transit continues to push for local residents to regain the use of MARTA transit in Clayton County by encouraging voters to take advantage of early voting at 6 convenient polling locations, voters can utilize any location throughout the area that will be open and operating until 7pm Friday, October 31st, 2014. The RISE UP CLAYTON & VOTE! is one of many partner campaigns created to ignite voters to register early with hopes to get as many votes leading up to the November 4th, 2014 Election.
Friends of Clayton Transit is a coalition partnership of over 20 groups that is dedicated to restoring public transportation with buses and commuter rails into Clayton County through proactive civil & community involvement, voter registration and education, door to door canvassing, public rallies, research and advocacy that has been developed through grassroots campaigns from the ground floor.
The NAN Clayton Henry Chapter in partnership with Friends of Clayton Transit will start their Press Conference & Rally with Reverend Al Sharpton at 11:00 a.m at the Friends of Clayton Transit (FCT) Headquarters, 6483 GA Highway 85, Riverdale, GA 30274. The community rally will continue into the evening at 7 p.m, when Reverend Sharpton will be the keynote speaker at a community Hands Up VOTE! Rally at the Center of Hope Church of God in Christ, located at 492 Roy Huie Road in Riverdale, Georgia where Dr. Dallas C. Wilson, Sr., is Pastor.
