Our business is committed to significant re-investment in the delivery of our vision, confident that we will continue to grow from strength to strength and maintain our position as the best Timber Merchant in the South East.

As part of this strategy they have completed the commissioning of a new Planning and Moulding production line at their Erith site in North Kent. This now enables Alsford Timber to further penetrate the supply chain, and give greater control over of the quality and range of products offered. Following a nine month project the £1m investment will see the 132 year old company bring back in-house the production of softwood and hardwood PAR and Mouldings for its Branch and Contracts businesses.

As an innovative producer of quality products Michael Weinig AG was chosen as supplier of the main plant, a decision that they are confident will pay dividends.

The Weinig Powermat 2400 with automated infeed and outfeed plus tally system was delivered on schedule in early September. Following a four week training and commissioning period the line is now producing core product for the 18 strong branch network across the South East.

The project gave an opportunity to relocate all other machinery on site allowing greater focus on the production of both core ranges and high margin volume special orders. Extraction systems and tooling capabilities were further enhanced to dramatically improve productivity levels. The investment comes on the back of a significant increase in Softwood Timber and Moulding sales since the company re-launched the category last year. An internal marketing programme saw all frontline sales staff trained at the company’s Tonbridge Training Centre supported by external training consultants.

Alsford Timber are the only timber specialist in the UK to offer three distinct grades of softwood timber and mouldings:

Contract Grade - Whitewood timber for stud work and budget mouldings
Standard Grade - Redwood timber and mouldings fit for most joinery and carpentry projects
Premier Grade - Selected grades for a clear premium finish minimal defect and waste

The three ranges are a fundamental part of the company’s success and confirm its heritage. Over the years, Alsford Timber has become synonymous with product quality, expert knowledge and a depth of range. The company has worked hard to ensure that in moving production in house, its reputation for quality and depth of range continues and believes that with the team and supply base it has drawn together, this will be achieved.
