Dreamweaver International is launching a line of nanofiber based separator materials for supercapacitors. They have been working with major supercapacitor manufacturers for over two years developing Dreamweaver Silver AR. Silver AR materials are designed to have lower internal resistance, higher capacitance and tensile strength, with lower moisture content. They are now qualified for manufacture on a machine capable of making over 40 million square meters per year.

Supercapacitors are energy storage devices similar to batteries, but with ten times as much power capability as a lithium ion battery. This allows them to capture and deliver energy much faster, making them perfect for such applications as regenerative braking for hybrid busses. Hybrid busses deliver a 38% increase in fuel mileage, and a 39% decrease in operating costs over conventional diesel busses, according to a study by the US Department of Energy.

In side by side comparisons done by outside laboratories comparing Dreamweaver’s Silver AR line to a leading competitor, Dreamweaver’s separators showed 63% lower Gurley resistance, 21% higher strength, 9% higher capacitance and 27% lower internal resistance. The internal resistance will increase the round trip energy efficiency of the supercapacitors, increasing the fuel efficiency in hybrid busses. A white paper discussing these results is available on Dreamweaver’s website, http://www.dreamweaverintl.com. Dreamweaver will be presenting the results of this study at the IDTechEx Supercapacitors USA Conference in Santa Clara, CA, on November 20, 2014.

“We are pleased that several innovative supercapacitor companies have chosen to use Dreamweaver separators in their products, and to be working with over 25 manufacturers on developmental cells to be launched soon. It is a wonderful way for us to contribute to energy efficiency in many different industries,” said Brian Morin, Dreamweaver International’s President & COO.
