Zeno’s World’s Most Famous Taffy™ Goes Unconventional for National Candy Day
Daytona Beach, FL (PRWEB) October 27, 2014 -- Coming on the heels of Halloween, National Candy Day is often overlooked. But the mid-term elections (set for the same day, November 4) may help bring some attention to the day. Regardless of one’s political point of view, and no matter who wins, everyone votes for candy!
Zeno’s World’s Most Famous Taffy™, the home of 101 fabulous flavors, announces its own results for National Candy Day. These are the most unconventional taffy flavors sold in its store – and across the world online. John Zeno Louizes, 3rd generation owner of Zeno’s, puts the winners as follows:
Most Unconventional
• Maple Bacon
• Margarita
• Birthday Cake
• Cotton Candy
• Fruit Punch
“As you might expect, traditional flavors like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry do very well, but it’s the unconventional flavors that many kids and adults alike get excited about,” said Louizes.
“Take Maple Bacon for instance. Today, the big craze is bacon. Everything has bacon it. Also, we were first with doing Birthday Cake and that is definitely one of our best sellers,” added Louizes. “Cotton Candy has fans because it’s not a fruity flavor, but Fruit Punch also draws admirers because the candy pops!”
Confections and candy have been around for thousands of years starting with the Egyptians, who ate fruits and nuts rolled in honey. The Aztecs and Mayans were consuming chocolate around 300 A.D. and the Spanish explorers had been introduced to the cacao bean in the early 1500s. Sugar production began in the middle ages and was a treasured luxury item, rather than the household commodity it is today.
The average American consumes about 25 lbs. of candy per year, and contrary to what one might think, 65% of all candy is eaten by adults.
Zeno’s manufactures over 125,000 pounds of taffy per year sold retail in two locations, Zeno’s Boardwalk Sweet Shop in Daytona Beach, Florida; and Zeno’s Boardwalk Sweet Shop on Florida’s west coast at Johns Pass Boardwalk in Madeira Beach.
