Atrion to Begin Vetting Engineer Candidates for January Apprentice Program
Warwick, Rhode Island (PRWEB) October 28, 2014 -- Five years ago, Atrion, a leading IT services company, spotted a growing problem in the IT landscape.
“There was—and still is—an IT talent struggle,” said Jamie Boughman, Learning and Organizational Development manager for the Atrion IT Apprentice Program. “Companies are struggling to find the right talent and in the quantity they need it. There’s a shortage of people.”
Stemming from this realization, the IT Apprentice Program was born. It consists of a year-long apprenticeship that develops the strong technical and people skills needed for IT engineers, providing apprentices with recognized credentials and investing in their long-term skill sets. Each year Atrion allots critical vetting time to select its next group of apprentices. The company is currently looking for high-quality candidates for its program that kicks off January 5.
Those who are chosen for this unique opportunity will be part of a talent accelerator course designed to advance their IT knowledge during a 12-week technical boot camp comprised of extensive mentoring and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training. Atrion is currently accepting applications and looking to hire about 20 apprentices by mid-December who will be brought on as full-time Atrion employees. The program has become the first IT apprenticeship program registered with the state of Rhode Island.
“We are looking for folks who are going to really excel in this particular type of environment,” Boughman said. “If technology and networking is your passion and you have a desire to grow your career quickly, this is the place to do it. You could stay in the place you are now—treading water or babysitting a network—but if you want something greater and bigger, you can come to a program like this and fast-forward your career.”
He added, “You don’t just come here to sit back, relax and let knowledge wash over you. Folks who are willing to put in the time, step up and be that rock-star engineer are the ones who are going to excel.” Apprentices will receive technical skill set training on everything from the Cisco CCNA curriculum to the Microsoft MCSA certification to the VMware VCP fundamentals; the curriculum alone is valued at more than $20,000. Those selected will get the chance to work intimately with Atrion customers, clients and leading executives.
