The Sewing Studio Welcomes Project Runway: Threads Contestant Grace Rickert
Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) October 30, 2014 -- The Sewing Studio, a popular fashion design and sewing studio located in trendy Old Pasadena, is hosting a Meet & Greet with Grace Rickert, a former Teen Fashion Series student and current contestant on Project Runway: Threads. The Meet & Greet will take place on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 1:00-3:00pm at The Sewing Studio located at 107 South Fair Oaks Ave #107, Pasadena, CA 91105 and is open to all future fashionistas.
During the summer of 2013, Project Runway: Threads approached The Sewing Studio’s owner and fashion designer Cynthia Harvey to hold its open auditions there. “Once the auditions began, I encouraged all of my students to try out,” comments Harvey. “Grace took the initiative and went for it.”
“From the moment Grace walked into her first class, I was surprised by her ambition,” continues Harvey. “She came into class with her mother’s 1980’s dress that she wanted to replicate. Through my instruction, she was able to complete a perfect knockoff by the end of the course.”
Harvey, a FIDM alumna, opened the doors to The Sewing Studio seven years ago with a mission to teach children and teens, like Grace, how to sew and explore their creative abilities by draping, cutting, and making their own clothes. Many of the students enrolled in the Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design program and Teen Fashion Series program aspire to become fashion designers when they graduate from high school.
Grace refined her sewing skills at the age of 13 when she enrolled in The Sewing Studio’s Teen Fashion Series, which is a 5-week course. Now 16, she aspires to be a designer infusing retro fashion in today’s designs.
Project Runway: Threads premiered Thursday, October 23, 2014 on Lifetime 10/9c. Watch it tonight!
