DARA Announces First Scholarship Fellow
BANGKOK, THAILAND (PRWEB) October 28, 2014 -- DARA Drug and Alcohol Rehab, as part of its ongoing partnership with Mahidol University’s ASEAN Institute for Health Development, has selected Lubna Altaf Husaain as the recipient of DARA’s first fully funded scholarship. As a DARA Fellow, Husaain will gain hands-on experience with drug and alcohol rehabilitation services as part of her master’s degree program in Addiction Studies at Mahidol. The scholarship also offers a fully paid staff position at DARA for at least one year upon completion of the university program.
DARA officials selected Husaain after a series of rigorous interviews with a broad spectrum of applicants. She already has completed her Master of Clinical Psychology program and has worked in a rehab outpatient program in the United Arab Emirates.
“She was chosen as the standout candidate because of her experience, passion and determination to undertake the Master in Addiction Studies course,” said Martin Peters, DARA’s Treatment Program Director. “The interview panel made a unanimous decision to offer the scholarship to her. We believe that Lubna will be a great role model for future scholarship recipients, as well as a strong representative of DARA.”
Husaain expressed utmost gratitude upon receiving the award, which she considers “a dream come true.”
“I am deeply grateful on this occasion,” Husaain said. “I sincerely thank DARA for the generous sponsorship. I take the responsibility wholeheartedly and will do everything I can to prove myself. This support also is an investment in the future of addiction treatment, which is my chosen career.”
DARA launched its five-year partnership with Mahidol University in March 2014. DARA sees the mutually beneficial agreement as a tremendous opportunity for students and faculty to learn about the most current trends in drug and alcohol rehab and for DARA to conduct joint research projects and to cooperate on regional professional projects. Mahidol students will be able to visit DARA for training days and to accompany DARA employees to professional conferences. Mahidol’s Addiction Studies program aims to develop leadership skills in the field of recovery and to conduct research in ways to alleviate addiction problems.
