Medical Center of Marin Partners with MCDHHS and Whistlestop to Provide 50 Comp Flu Shots for their Aging Members on Wednesday, Oct 29 at Whistlestop in San Rafael, CA
Corte Madera, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2014 -- On Wednesday, October 29th from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, the Medical Center of Marin (MCoM) will be administering 50 complimentary flu shots donated by the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services (MCDHHS) to the elderly uninsured/underinsured population. The event will be hosted by Whistlestop Active Aging Center (in the Caboose Room on a Drop-in only basis at 930 Tamalpais Ave., San Rafael), a non-profit organization focused on providing a variety of services to their aging members and guests. This flu clinic is not the first time that these three organizations have partnered together to provide services to the community. Last year, MCoM created and sponsored a community outreach event—Unify—which assisted more than 175 needy families obtain free items and services. Whistlestop hosted the one-day event and MCDHHS, along with the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers (SEIU), provided ten Certified Enrollment Counselors (CECs) who assisted and advised 62 people with respect to signing up for health coverage. For more information on last year’s Unify event visit: http://www.mcomarin.com/press_area#press.
MCoM will be sponsoring the Unify event again this year on January 17th, 2015, with the support of Whistlestop and MCDHHS. They will be looking for additional participants including non-profit organizations, businesses and volunteers to help make this outreach event an even larger success. “Our goal is to reach more families and individuals in need, whether it be with our flu clinic or our Unify event. We continue to look for opportunities to make an even greater impact on the community this year.” concluded Loral Wright, Unify Organizer and Marketing Specialist for MCoM.
In the past, MCoM and MCDHHS have worked together to stagger flu clinics in an effort to vaccinate as many Marin County residents as possible. With the addition of the Whistlestop flu clinic this year, they are planning to reach even farther.
