Whiskies of the World Expo® Atlanta Announces Lineup
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 30, 2014 -- The Whiskies of the World today released the exciting line up of brands participating at the 2nd Annual Atlanta event, which will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Fox Theater.
The flagship event, Whiskies of the World San Francisco, has grown over the last 15 years to become one of the largest consumer tasting festivals in America, and a much-anticipated staple, not only locally, but nationwide. Every year, the Expo enjoys the attendance of 1,500 participants from as many as 20 states. The Whiskies of the World in Atlanta follows the success of its San Francisco and Austin events to gather the world’s most fascinating distilled spirits along with their makers and ambassadors to give its guests an opportunity to sample, learn and experience the art of whisky. Soon to become an Atlanta favorite, the Expo includes whisky pairing with craft foods and a cigar cut and smoke. Famous men behind the whiskies will be in attendance to pour and personally chat with guests: Josh Gelfand, newly-appointed brand ambassador for the Glenlivet; Monique Houston, Keeper of Quaich and guru of all things spirits; Ed Kohl, Scotch “trainer” for the entire beverage industry and brand ambassador for Kilchoman and Isle of Arran; David Perkins, proprietor of High West Distillery, prophesying his organoleptic approach to whiskey, and other notable whisky personas.
From the biggest brand names to recently introduced to the US, including unique whiskies from Scotland and Ireland, exotic Asian whiskies and the diverse products of the American craft, there will be a spirit to suit everyone’s taste. In addition to incredible spirits from every corner of the world, the Expo will also feature seminars conducted by world renowned Master Distillers and Brand Ambassadors. Among those giving seminars are:
Bernie Lubbers (Heaven Hill) “Stay Bonded”
The Bottled in Bond Act, the first consumer protection legislation dealing with the quality of alcohol was passed in 1897. Now in the modern era, whiskey ambassador Bernie Lubbers (the Whiskey Professor) will guide the guests through the tasting of four these great Bottled in Bond Whiskies from family owned and operated Heaven Hill, which produces more Bottled in Bond whiskies than anyone else in the world: Mellow Corn (the only Bottled In Bond Straight Corn Whiskey produced, Evan Williams Bottled in Bond (four years old traditional bourbon recipe), Rittenhouse Rye (the most sought after, allocated rye whiskey in the world), and Henry McKenna (the oldest age stated Bottled in Bond on the market).
David Blackmore (Glenmorangie and Ardbeg) “Single malts from the Highlands and Islay, and Food Pairing”
Glenmorangie and Ardbeg will be at WOW Atlanta for the second time. This year, David Blackmore (global ambassador for Glenmorangie and Ardbeg single malts) will lead participants in a master class on single malts from the Highland and Islay regions of Scotland. The participants will have a pleasure to hear from renowned Atlanta chef and restaurateur, Linton Hopkins, owner of Holeman & Finch Public House and Restaurant Eugene. Chef Linton will pair the wonderful expressions of Glenmorangie with some delectable items from his award winning restaurants.
Monique Houston (Marsalle) “A Global Whisky Sampler”
Monique Houston began a career in the spirits industry as the curator of one of the world's largest single malt scotch whisky collections. Leading many whisky and spirits tastings, seminars, and tours for over a decade, she garnered a passion for the industry which continues to grow. After spending a year in Spain, dedicating time to continuing whisky and sherry education, she joined the Stoller Wine and Spirits team based in Chicago as the Elite Spirits Portfolio Manager. Monique was recently certified a Glazer’s Product Expert and was recently inducted as a Keeper of the Quaich. The attendees will taste the Drumguish single malt (Scotland), James Oliver Rye (American), Lark Tasmanian cask strength single malt (Tasmania), Uisce Beatha Irish Whiskey (Ireland) and a surprise Scott’s Selection single cask single malt offering.
David Perkins (High West) “Whiskey: An Organoleptic Journey”
The guests will join David Perkins, proprietor of High West Distillery, for an experiential seminar of multiple whiskey distillates to better understand The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau whiskey regulations, whiskey styles, cut points, yeast, mistakes, and one of our weaknesses: whiskey and chocolate.
Josh Gelfand (The Glenlivet) “Wood Makes the Whisky”
Josh Gelfand has eight years of spirits and hospitality experience, ranging from bartending to being a brand ambassador for The Glenlivet, his most recent position. The class will take the attendees from Aberlour to The Glenlivet, five miles away yet worlds apart. The guests will dive into the complexities of wood management and how cask selection greatly influences the flavor profile of each spirit.
“Cigars and Whisk(e)y – A Perfect Pairing” (by Davidoff Cigars)
With a cigar and whisky in hand, guests will be guided through the flavors and aromas to focus on when matching a whisky with a cigar.
The experience will involve a scotch, Benromach Organic, and a bourbon, Russell's Reserve 10 years old.
Guests will also enjoy a sumptuous buffet dinner specially created to pair with whisky, and outdoor cigar smoking for the total delectable experience. The event has been receiving great interest from exhibitors, consumers, media and trade, and aims to start a new tradition among the whisky enthusiasts of Atlanta and beyond.
VIP tickets cost $150 (sold out) and General Admission tickets cost $120. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://www.whiskiesoftheworld.com.
