Britannica and edWeb.net Partner to Ignite Education Ideas; November 3 Webinar to Kick off New Learning Community for Educators
Chicago, Ill. (PRWEB) October 30, 2014 -- Britannica® Digital Learning is partnering with edWeb.net, a professional learning and social network for the education community, to present Ignite Digital Learning, an initiative aimed at helping teachers, curriculum directors, and school librarians maximize their use of digital resources and support students in reaching their full potential.
Ignite Digital Learning is a free online professional learning community (PLC) where educators, librarians and administrators explore ways to help students become better thinkers, readers and writers through the use of digital resources. It offers educators a place to post questions, start discussions, share practical tips, and get feedback from experts and peers on ways to stimulate curiosity and critical thinking, celebrate independent discovery, and help every student collaborate, communicate and achieve.
The new Britannica PLC is hosted on edWeb.net and will provide free webinars for educators on topics such as preparing students with essential skills, real-world applications that make learning relevant and enjoyable, differentiating digital content and strategies to reach all students wherever learning takes them.
The first Britannica webinar will take place on Monday, November 3, when Britannica curriculum specialist Sara Torpey presents “Picture This: Engaging Students with Online Images.” The one-hour session will show educators how they can use online images to spark curiosity and increase the rigor and demand of lessons and activities at all grade levels. Educators can register here.
Additional themes to be explored include: involving parents and family members in digital discoveries, and the value of digital resources for supporting curriculum standards, increasing student engagement and strengthening existing classroom and library materials.
This online PLC has a number of benefits for educators, librarians and administrators. Participants will receive a CE Certificate for attending a live webinar or for viewing a recording. Ignite Digital Learning will be a growing professional-development hub with webinar archives and support materials that can be accessed at anytime, anywhere.
“Britannica has been synonymous with learning for over 200 years,” said Lisa Schmucki, founder and CEO of edWeb.net. “We are delighted to partner with Britannica Digital Learning to help teachers learn how Britannica’s expanding digital content can help students of today’s generation develop a passion for learning.”
Michael Ross, senior vice president and general manager at Britannica Digital Learning, said, “edWeb.net has become an important source of professional learning for educators, and Britannica is enthusiastic about adding its voice and support via our own edWeb.net community. We look forward to generating dialogue and practical ideas about how to use high-quality online content and instructional resources to ensure that students are well-prepared for the world they’ll shape.”
Educators are invited to join the Ignite Digital Learning PLC on edWeb.net to stay informed about upcoming webinars, join in discussions with peers and experts, and gain access to valuable resources.
