Report Shows a Shortage of Talent in Financial Industry
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 30, 2014 -- In a recent report released by Robert Half, two-thirds (68%) of CFOs revealed a certain level of difficulty in finding skilled candidates to fill professional-level financial jobs.
The 2015 Salary Guide: Accounting & Finance released by the professional staffing firm, surveyed more than 2,100 CFOs in 20 of the largest U.S markets. The report reveals that 53% of CFOs describe finding appropriately skilled-candidates as somewhat challenging while 15% described it as very challenging. Less than one-third (31%) of CFOs describe finding new talent as not challenging.
The report also reveals that many businesses are seeking technical expertise as financial departments move away from a reporting-focused to an analytics-centric function. The top skills in demand for financial candidate are advanced Excel skills, knowledge of large enterprise resource planning systems, expertise in data analytics, advanced modeling techniques and the use of SQL, knowledge of business intelligence software such as IBM Cognos and MicroStrategy, familiarity with Hyperion (for analyst and financial reporting roles), and a knowledge of QuickBooks (for positions within small and midsize firms).
Other in-demand skills include regulatory and compliance experience or expertise due to the fact that financial firms have more mandates to comply with in recent time, including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), capital requirements, consumer protection and anti-money laundering regulations. For corporate and public accounting roles, a knowledge of Securities and Exchange requirements and generally accepted accounting principles remain mandatory.
International Financial Reporting Standards and multilingual abilities continue to remain highly-coveted skills, as businesses expand into new countries and markets.
Within the financial industry, the top positions in demand are accounts receivable/payable professionals, auditors, business and business systems analysts, compliance professionals, controllers, cost accountants, financial analysts, payroll professionals, senior accountants and staff accountants.
