‘A Hogwarts Halloween’ Raises $14,000 for James Blackstone Memorial Library
Branford, Conn. (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- The James Blackstone Memorial Library today announced its third annual weekend of ‘A Hogwarts Halloween’ fundraisers garnered $14,000 in donations for the iconic Branford landmark.
“We continue to be overwhelmed by the popularity of ‘A Hogwarts Halloween’ and grateful for the outpouring of support the community has shown for the Blackstone,” said Karen Jensen, director, James Blackstone Memorial Library. “To see children and adults alike transported into literature as though they were characters in the story is really powerful and it’s a testament to the lifelong impact of literature and libraries.”
For two consecutive days, the Blackstone offered children – including witches, wizards and Muggles – the opportunity to be transported to Hogwarts where they could attend classes in Charms, Divination, Potions and Quidditch. The experience even included an opportunity to visit Ollivanders’ Wand Shop to secure their souvenir wands.
On Saturday evening, adults were offered ‘A Hint of Hogwarts’ featuring wizardly potions, sumptuous provisions and magical surprises.
“This weekend was an opportunity for children and children-at-heart to celebrate their love of literature and show their support for the library,” Jensen said.
A central hub of the community that inspires lifelong learning, provides essential access to information and strengthens Branford, the Blackstone library served more than 200,000 patrons in 2013 alone. Every day, people of all ages, ethnicities and abilities turn to the Library for a variety of reasons, whether it be to connect to the Internet, teach their children to read or find a place of quiet reading and reflection. Further, the Blackstone Library provides more than just books, computers and DVDs. It provides a place to exchange ideas, build relationships and learn from one another. In 2013, more than 20,000 people attended programming at the library.
