New York, NY (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- Mashable, the leading media company for the Connected Generation, announced today that it will launch MashFlix, a film screening series in New York and Los Angeles beginning November 2014. The monthly series will feature live events, access to filmmakers, digital streaming and social-based community challenges to connect the engaged Mashable community around the globe.
As part of the MashFlix film series, Mashable will select a limited-release film and share exclusive content, including official trailers, set photos and behind-the-scenes features, both on the website and amplified through Mashable’s social channels. At the end of each selection period, Mashable will host a live screening of the film, followed by an interactive discussion between the audience and filmmakers.
Additionally, Mashable’s international audience will have the opportunity to participate in Mashflix remotely. For each film, Mashable will host recurring social-based contests and challenges leading up to the live screening. Winners of the challenges will receive access to view the selected film online and the following livestream of the in-theater discussion with the filmmakers.
“We are very excited to be announcing MashFlix, a series that will combine our audience’s passion for entertainment and further our mission to bring the Mashable experience to our community both on and offline,” said Jeff Petriello, Producer/Creative of Mashable. “We are thrilled to have IFC Films on board for the launch of MashFlix. As a digital early adopter and a premium content creator, they are a natural partner.”
Mashable and IFC Films will exclusively partner for the MashFlix premiere screening of The Babadook. The live event will be held on Thursday, November 20 in the IFC Center theater in New York City, followed by a live-streamed discussion with Director and Screenwriter Jennifer Kent.
The Babadook tells the story of a single mother, Amelia, who is plagued by the violent death of her husband and battles with her son’s nighttime fear of a shadowy monster. Written and directed by Jennifer Kent, the supporting cast also includes Daniel Henshall, Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West and Ben Winspear. The film has received critical acclaim since its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
The launch of MashFlix follows the success of MashableReads, Mashable’s interactive social book club, which launched in fall 2013. Previous MashableReads featured authors include Malcolm Gladwell, B.J. Novak and David Mitchell.
