MUSCATINE, Iowa (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- Stanley Consultants has successfully achieved a Blue Zones Worksite designation. This accomplishment means that Stanley Consultants has demonstrated a commitment to the wellbeing of its employees by creating a healthier work environment that supports environmental, social, and policy changes that promote healthier behaviors. During a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, Blue Zones Project Organization Lead Jodi Hansen presented Stanley Consultants with a certificate and applauded the company for its leadership in the workplace. Stanley Consultants is a global consulting engineering company founded and headquartered in Muscatine, Iowa.
The Blue Zones Project, based on Blue Zones® principles developed by Dan Buettner, is the centerpiece of Iowa Governor Terry Branstad’s Healthiest State Initiative to make Iowa the healthiest state by 2016. Blue Zones employs evidence-based ways to help people live longer, better lives by taking a systematic, environmental approach to well-being, which focuses on optimizing policy, social networks and the built environments where people spend their time.
The Blue Zones certification process focuses on six areas: Leadership; Purpose; Habitat/Physical Environment; Engagement / Creation of Social Networks; Policies and Benefits; and Well-Being Solutions. In order to receive the Blue Zones Worksite Designation, Stanley Consultants had to earn at least two-third of the total points possible on the Worksite Assessment Survey, and at least 25 percent of the employees in the company’s Muscatine Office signed the Blue Zones Personal Pledge and completed at least one action toward healthier living.
“The health and wellness of our members has always been important to Stanley Consultants,” said Human Resources Assistant Jan Beinke, who is heading up the program. “So it was no surprise to discover while completing the Worksite Assessment Survey, that we already had many of the recommended programs and offerings in place and available to our members.”
Muscatine is a Blue Zones Certified Community. To qualify for this distinction, at least 25 percent of public schools became a Blue Zones school, at least 50 percent of top 20 community-identified employers became a Blue Zones Worksite; at least 25 percent of independently or locally owned restaurants became a Blue Zones restaurant; and at least 25 percent of grocery stores became a Blue Zones Grocery Store. In addition, at least 20 percent of the Muscatine’s residents signed individual health pledges. The success of the Blue Zones Project is measured by improvement in overall well-being, meaning that the Blue Zones Project is not focused only on physical health, but also on emotional and social health.
