Rural Education National Forum Featuring Arne Duncan and Randi Weingarten on RFD-TV Hosted by RANDA Solutions VP of Education, Dr. Rod Berger
Franklin, TN (PRWEB) November 03, 2014 -- The Core of Education, hosted by Rod Berger, VP of Education at RANDA Solutions, was recently chosen to cover and host the Rural Education National Forum, held October 27 -28, 2014 in Columbus Ohio. During the forum, Dr. Berger interviewed a wide range of leaders in education, including Obama's Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan and current president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten. These interviews and others became the basis for a half-hour special on rural education called "Rural Education Forum," which first aired on RFD-TV on October 31, 2014. The special was hosted by Dr. Berger and was presented in cooperation with American Ed TV and RFD-TV.
When asked about the TIME Magazine "rotten apples" cover, implying that bashing on teachers will somehow improve education outcomes, Wiengarten responded with "I thought we were done with this!" Weingarten also discussed the American Federation of Teachers' position on the current administration and their guarded optimism that change can occur for the right reasons. When asked about the Obama administration, she said she wants the the President to "change you policies to align with your rhetoric."

For his interview, Secretary Duncan painted a positive view of education in the United States. He talked about the importance of parents partnering with schools to make sure students get the best possible education to leave high school college or career ready. Further, Duncan emphasized the importance of having high standards, and what a disservice it was to students when standards were "dummied down," for political reasons, resulting in students not being prepared for college. He also spoke to the fact that his department can't micromanage education on the local levels, and that is why local control is so important.
