More Tylenol Lawsuits Added to Pennsylvania Litigation in October, Bernstein Liebhard LLP Reports
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 02, 2014 -- More Tylenol lawsuits (http://www.tylenollawsuitcenter.com/) were filed this month in a multidistrict litigation established for claims involving the pain-relieving medication, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports.
According to court documents updated on October 15th, a total of 164 lawsuits are now pending in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania on behalf of individuals who allegedly sustained liver damage caused by Tylenol’s active ingredient, acetaminophen. Injuries allegedly occurred after the medication was taken in accordance with label instructions, and resulted in hospitalization, liver transplantation or death, plaintiffs allege. “We are pleased to see continued progress in the federal Tylenol litigation underway in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Our Firm continues to hear from individuals who allegedly sustained liver damage due to over-the-counter Tylenol products,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective medical devices and drugs including Tylenol. The Firm is offering free and confidential case reviews to individuals who may have suffered acetaminophen-related liver damage that allegedly resulted in liver transplantation, hospitalization or death.
Tylenol Lawsuits Allege Liver Damage
Before the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) issued its most recent Case List update on October 15th, court records showed fewer lawsuits filed in the proceeding. A month earlier, 158 cases were pending in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
A Philadelphia Inquirer report in February 2014 published some significant revelations involving acetaminophen-related liver damage injuries. Toxic reactions from the Tylenol ingredient cause 78,000 emergency room visits and 33,000 hospitalizations every year, the article indicates.*
A year earlier, Bloomberg.com reported that acetaminophen amounts in Tylenol products exceed a cap issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on acetaminophen in prescription medications. Specifically, in 2011, the FDA capped levels of acetaminophen in prescription medications at 325 mg. The Bloomberg report points out that Extra Strength Tylenol contains 500 mg of acetaminophen per capsule.**
Individuals who allegedly sustained sudden liver failure that resulted in hospitalization, the need for a transplant or even death, may be entitled to compensation for injury-related damages.
