The Marlin Company, a provider of workplace digital signage, has been granted its 4th US patent, No. 8,826,168 B2. The patent is for increased security control over confidential media that is displayed on Marlin’s electronic message boards.

Digital signage in the workplace is used to inform, engage and motivate employees. Screens are typically located in a break room where employees congregate. Companies often use digital signage to display key performance metrics, many of which may be confidential in nature.

Marlin’s SaaS-based content management software enables users to create content (typically PowerPoints, memos, charts, videos, images, etc.) via a secure login. They can post content to one screen at a single location or multiple screens enterprise-wide. In most cases content is stored on Marlin’s servers and “pulled” to the screens via http transfer.

For highly confidential content, such as financial data or proprietary product or process information, users have the option to house content on their own internal servers, making it available through Marlin’s proprietary method. In this way, that content never leaves the company’s network.

“Digital Signage is a great tool for bringing important data to life and displaying it in a relevant way so that workers understand it,” said Frank Kenna III, President of The Marlin Company. “As much as everyone is tapping into the power and potential of the Cloud, the fact is that companies have important data that they just do not feel comfortable housing on the Internet. We’ve included the secure option so that critical content such as production metrics and financial performance can be made accessible to employees on their in-house digital signage networks, without compromising security.”
