The Men of the Metro Detroit Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women to Host Wine-tasting Gala at Aston Martin of Troy
Troy, Michigan (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 -- The “Wine, Women and Song” wine-tasting gala is being held as a fundraiser for the Metro Detroit Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women. The event is being organized by the men of the chapter in alignment with initiatives such as White Ribbon Day and the UN Women’s #He For She campaign which was recently launched by Emma Watson. The aim of the event is to encourage local men to step forward in solidarity for gender equality and to stop violence against women.
Lori Blaker, President of the Metro Detroit Chapter and President/CEO of TTi Global explains, “Gender equality is not only a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue that affects all of us –women and girls, men and boys. We all benefit socially, politically and economically from gender equality in our everyday lives. When women are empowered, the whole of humanity benefits. Gender equality liberates not only women but also men, from prescribed social roles and gender stereotypes.”
The strolling gala will feature as a highlight an assortment of wines provided by Cellar Door of Auburn Hills. Cellar Door wine experts will be on hand to teach local enthusiasts about the vibrant world of wine. In addition Hardy Kefes and Don Reinholm of The Two Talls will be providing live music while the Argentine Tango Studio will perform a series of Tango demonstrations. Kotz, Sangster, Wysocki P.C. is generously sponsoring all food and refreshments. A raffle for a Manno Clothier gift certificate and other door prizes will be held. Aston Martin of Troy is the sponsor of the venue.
Richard Kollins a member and chair of the evening event states, “We are hosting this event to raise awareness for the White Ribbon and #HeForShe campaigns. This is a solidarity movement for gender equality that brings together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity, for the benefit of all. Now it’s time to unify our efforts. It’s our hope that as a result of this event, other men will commit to take action against all forms of violence and discrimination faced by women and girls.”

The event is open to the public. Tickets are $50 per person or $90 per couple and can be purchased by calling 248-853-5550. Reservations are required by November 10th. Space is limited.
