We know the terrible cost to consumers who have their identity stolen. Because we know about protecting ownership rights in homes via our title insurance policies, we wanted an additional layer of protection for our valued customers.

With data breaches, phishing and other computer hacks placing millions of Americans’ personal financial information at risk each year, North American Title Co. (NAT) is providing its customers with additional peace of mind. Via AllClear ID, all home buyers and sellers who close with NAT on or after Dec. 1, 2014, will receive 12 months of identity theft repair coverage at no cost.

“We know the terrible cost to consumers who have their identity stolen, as they work with creditors and credit bureaus to repair their credit,” said Tom Fischer, NAT president. “Because we know about protecting ownership rights in homes via our title insurance policies, we wanted to provide an additional layer of protection for our valued customers.

“We take our customers’ private information very seriously and provide a number of measures to safeguard it,” added Fischer. “But now, no matter where the fraud occurs, those buyers and sellers will have 12 months of access to identity repair through the AllClear Guarantee.”

To gain perspective on this consumer issue, CBS News reported in July there were 10 million personal records exposed in 368 U.S. data breaches in only the first six months of 2014. The Bureau of Justice reported 16.6 million American adults experienced their personal data being used for fraudulent reasons in 2012 alone (its latest figures).

The AllClear Guarantee provides that a NAT customer who finds that his or her identity has been stolen will call the AllClear ID customer support team and provide proof of coverage. From that point, AllClear ID does the work to restore the customer’s credit and help recover losses from the identity theft. The AllClear Guarantee does not include credit or identity theft monitoring.

“We chose AllClear ID because of their unparalleled customer service and resolution record,” said Fischer.

If a customer experiences financial fraud, AllClear ID goes to work on their behalf to restore their credit to its accurate state. AllClear ID is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau.

“Buying or selling a home is already a complicated process, and North American Title is proud to work with real estate professionals, attorneys and lenders to provide a smooth closing,” said Fischer. “As they settle into their new lives for that first year, buyers and sellers should now be even more comfortable, knowing that if they experience identity theft, they will have the assistance of the AllClear Guarantee that we have provided them.

“And with the active refinance market today, we’ve also made this protection available to those borrowers who refinance their mortgage and close with us,” he said. “We want this service to be an additional reason to ask for North American Title as their settlement service provider in the markets we cover across the country.”
