Oliver North a Special Guest for Liberty University’s Military Emphasis Week
Lynchburg, Va. (PRWEB) November 03, 2014 -- Oliver North, an author, political commentator, and former U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant colonel, will be the featured speaker at Liberty University’s Convocation on Wednesday, Nov. 5, as part of the university’s annual Military Emphasis Week. The week will culminate with a special celebration of veterans, service members, and their families at halftime of the Flames Football game on Saturday in Williams Stadium.
Events throughout the week will focus on honoring the military.
On Monday, a night of remembrance for our fallen heroes will be held at 7 p.m. in the main banquet hall of the Hancock Welcome Center.
Wednesday’s Convocation will feature Oliver North, an author, political commentator, and former U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant colonel. (Convocation will be streamed live via the Liberty Channel.) After Convocation, a Veteran’s Reception will be hosted from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Hancock Welcome Center banquet room for any of Liberty’s students, faculty, and staff who have served or are currently serving in the military.
On Saturday morning, Student Activities is hosting the Valley View 5 Miler race for military appreciation. All service members and veterans who complete the race will receive a special challenge coin.
Before the football game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a special military tailgate beginning at 11:30 a.m. on the front lawn of the Hancock Welcome Center. All veterans are welcome to participate.
The game will feature military-themed pregame and halftime festivities. At halftime, Liberty will recognize this year’s recipient of the George Rogers Champion of Freedom Award. Liberty’s Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band will perform a patriotic salute, complemented by a 50-yard American flag, and Christian recording artist and worship leader Charles Billingsley will cap the show with a live performance of “God Bless the USA.”
