“I just can’t wait til it does happen and I can be myself...I don’t know how it feels like to be myself. This is what I wanted for my whole life.” - Michael
Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) November 06, 2014
It’s the embarrassing secret afflicting 60% of men – excess fatty tissue around the breast, a.k.a. “man-boobs.” The name sounds silly, but for the men affected, it has serious effects on their self-esteem and confidence. The condition of male breasts (gynecomastia) is caused by hormonal imbalance and can appear at puberty, or be brought on later by many factors, including aging, obesity, smoking marijuana or steroid misuse.
Michael’s gynecomastia developed at age 12, and he has spent every day of the last 18 years trying to hide them. He wears only thick black shirts and avoids taking family photos.
An exercise regime helped him lose 40 pounds – but did nothing for the place he was most concerned about – his chest.
That’s when he and his fiancée, Sarah, began researching breast reduction surgery and found Dr. Larry Schlesinger of The Breast Implant Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
"Unfortunately, this is pretty common...the good news is that board-certified plastic surgeons like myself know how to treat this", says Dr. Schlesinger.
Although telling his story is clearly painful for Michael, when asked about the procedure, his eyes light up like he hit the jackpot.
“I just can’t wait til it does happen and I can be myself...I don’t know how it feels like to be myself. This is what I wanted for my whole life.”
