London-based travel tech start-up Yachtsie is poised to revolutionise the yacht charter market with the launch of its new platform, allowing users to search, compare and book boats in just a few clicks.
Yacht chartering is a global industry that generates an estimated £2bn in annual revenues, but it can be hard for customers to find their perfect boat.
Steve Raw, Yachtsie founder and CEO said, “I’ve been chartering yachts for years and have always been frustrated by the antiquated booking process. There are thousands of small suppliers, research involves lots of phone calls and payment often requires a bank transfer. It’s time-consuming and you can easily overpay or end up with a sub-standard boat.”
Yachtsie was created to offer customers a better booking experience. Its technology integrates with the fleet management systems used by professional yacht operators, allowing it to aggregate real-time data on over 2,000 boats across the globe. Customers can use Yachtsie to quickly search, compare and book yachts online. Company CMO, Tom Guy said, “Yachtsie provides customers with the kind of booking experience they’re used to from the flight, car rental and hotel industries. It also helps boat operators by reducing the administrative burden of phone and email bookings.”
The Yachtsie team has spent the last year building the technology and signing-up industry partners ahead of the official launch. There are now 50 major operators on the platform and this number is growing daily, opening up new boats and locations.
As Yachtsie develops, customers can expect to see a range of new features. In particular, the team is aiming to make yacht chartering more accessible to inexperienced sailors. Raw said, “Our research shows that lots of people would like to go on a sailing holiday but don’t know where to start. We want to make it easy for this community by providing access to rated skippers, recommended itineraries and the relevant insurance. We hope to get lots more people out there enjoying the water.”
Yachtsie will be exhibiting at the upcoming London Boat Show. The annual event is scheduled for January 9-18 2015 and attracts the biggest names in the boating industry.
