Principle Strategies Partners with Nordstrom to “Dress for Success”
Norfolk, Va. (PRWEB) November 04, 2014 -- Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
Cliché? Yes. True? Absolutely, and in late November Principle Strategies will partner with Nordstrom’s premier stylist Alton Washington at MacArthur Center mall in Norfolk, Va. to host their inaugural Dress for Success event.
“Our goal is to help job applicants and entry to mid level professionals working to move up in their field market the number one asset they have – themselves,” said Hope Paryzek, Founder and CEO of Principle Strategies.
Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Norfolk, Va.’s iconic Monticello Arcade office building, Principle Strategies has three divisions – Human Resources Solutions, Creative Solutions and Business Solutions – through which it offers companies of varying sizes human resources management, payroll administration, virtual assistance, and marketing support.
A large piece of their human resources division is recruiting, where Paryzek and her team are often a job applicant’s first interview for a vacancy.
“In this competitive job market, first impressions are critical,” Paryzek said. “Employers are not only interested in education and experience. They want to know if applicants will fit in with their company culture and represent their company well. The way a job applicant presents themselves is as much a part of their qualifications as anything.”
At the Dress for Success event, stylist Washington will help educate and guide attendees through the latest trends in business dress, as well as the process all professionals should take when piecing together a wardrobe for work.
“Alton not only has impeccable taste, but he’s also been guiding people through fashion and dressing for success in whatever they do for 20 years,” Paryzek said.
No matter who Washington has helped style, his core guidance remains the same whether the client just started with a company or is its CEO.
“Start with a few, high quality basic items and then build up,” he said.
He also suggested investing in those timeless pieces that last – high quality shoes, suits and watches for example.
“What is challenging for young professionals is that, while the workplace has gotten a bit more casual,” Washington said, “the change has not been as extreme as media and entertainment would have us believe.”
“The goal of this event is for the attendees to find a way to express themselves with their style appropriately within the workplace,” said Washington.
“Even in the most conservative workplace, one can express themselves with details such as lapel pins, pocket squares, or socks,” Washington said.
Washington’s most important tip? Tailoring.
“You always want your clothes to fit you well physically and fit your personality, too,” Paryzek said. “But it is important to know the parameters within the professional environment. The culture is different from company to company, but the parameters of professional attire that would apply to an interview are pretty timeless. In the end, our goal is to hire great, qualified candidates for our clients.”
The event is by invitation only. Contact Principle Strategies at 757.626.3533 or [email protected] about attending.
