Bob Carter Companies LLC has added James E. Starr as a Managing Director on its team of philanthropy and nonprofit fundraising consultants. Starr has 25 years of experience in consulting and executive leadership roles, including national and regional positions with the American Red Cross.
Starr will focus on several areas of expertise in serving nonprofit clients: Strategic planning, building sustainable strategies, revenue opportunities, strengthening community support through board and volunteer development, and expanded community engagement.

Joining the American Red Cross in 2000, Starr led the Corporate Strategy department at their national headquarters. He created the agency-wide strategic plan and several strategic initiatives, focusing on all aspects of the Red Cross mission.
Starr served as Chief Strategist and Chief of Staff to the President and CEO of the Red Cross before moving to a leadership role in the Red Cross Greater Alleghenies Blood Region, one of the agency’s largest, covering seven states and serving 100 hospitals. He was promoted to Division Vice President, Humanitarian Services for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the Caribbean. He later returned to the national headquarters, where he led initiatives to standardize policies, further engage corporate and community partners, and implement new processes to engage volunteers for disaster relief operations.
