AFAA's Zoo Walk for Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Brings Four Educational Concerts to Arizona Schools
Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) November 06, 2014 -- Director of Operations & Founder of AFAA, Lisa Horne, is excited to announce that as part of AFAA’s mission to “bring awareness, understanding, and safety within families and communities by providing educational resources”; Arizona Food Allergy Alliance (AFAA) has sponsored four (4) concerts with International food allergy musician and educator, Kyle Dine! These concerts will take place in schools across the State of Arizona as follows:
Friday, Nov. 7
Twin Peaks School, Tucson - 8:15am Show & 9:15am Show
Carden Christian Academy, Tucson - 2pm Show
Monday Nov. 10
Kyrene De Los Lagos School, Phoenix - 9:00am Show
The schools were chosen by the highest fundraiser at each walk from the 2014 AFAA Zoo Walk for Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis in both Tucson (http://www.zoowalktucson.org) and Phoenix (http://www.zoowalkphoenix.org). “AFAA is a volunteer-run grassroots organization that emphasizes putting money and resources directly back into our community. Funds raised at our Zoo Walks directly benefit the food allergy & anaphylaxis community of Arizona, and we are privileged to be able to help make a difference locally”, says Horne.
AFAA also uses funding to host an annual summer day camp for kids with food allergies, Camp Ye bik’ehgo; an annual overnight teen lock-in for teens with food allergies; local research funding, and more. For more details on all of AFAA’s services and programs visit http://www.arizonafoodallergy.org. The 2015 Zoo Walks are scheduled for April 4th in Tucson, and March 7th in Phoenix. Registration and fundraising for both walks is currently open.
An estimated 15 million Americans have food allergies. That’s 9 million adults, and 6 million children. Food allergies can be life-threatening and there is no cure. Eight foods account for 90% of all food allergies: Fish, Shellfish, Peanut, Tree Nut, Soy, Egg, Wheat, and Dairy. There are approximately 2 kids in every Arizona classroom with a food allergy.
