Campbell, CA (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 -- Dr. Jeremy K. Ueno, of Ueno Periodontics, is introducing a new technology for his patients. LAPIP, a laser-assisted peri-implantitis procedure can help patients with failing plants.
The LAPIP procedure follows the same protocol as LANAP, a laser-assisted new attachment procedure which works wonders on natural teeth to treat periodontitis or loss of bone around teeth.
Peri-implantitis is bone loss occurring around dental implants. As an implant becomes diseased and loses bone, the chances of losing it (failure) go up dramatically. Some type of surgical intervention is recommended. This may include bone grafts, gum grafts or sometimes the removal of the implant.
LAPIP offers patients a way to avoid going through major surgery, while still effectively treating the implant. In some cases, LAPIP will reverse bone loss and help stimulate bone growth. When LAPIP does not encourage bone growth, the implant does become much healthier from the LAPIP treatment and a bone graft and/or gum graft can be done as a secondary procedure with a very high success rate.
Not all patients with failing implants can be treated with the LAPIP technology. Dr. Ueno will have to determine if patients are able to be candidates for this cutting-edge treatment.
