Mike Caslin to Speak at Harvard University’s Global Summit on Social Entrepreneurship
(PRWEB) November 07, 2014 -- Mike Caslin is a visionary co-founder of Urgent VC, LLC, a venture development company dedicated to building sustainable companies that help communities become more sustainable. He is also co-founder of the Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship Networks (GCSEN) and Managing Director of Rising Tide Capital. Caslin has three decades of experience as a global social entrepreneur and faculty experiences with Babson College's Blank Center, Symposium for Entrepreneurship Education and Babson Global and Baruch Business Schools.
In addition to his other accomplishments, Harvard University especially recognizes Caslin for his innovative work with Urgent VC, through which he has “helped improve not only the lives of countless individuals, but also sought to redefine the way in which individuals and businesses interact with and receive access to sustainable energy.” By sharing insights from his extensive career in social entrepreneurship, Caslin hopes to help foster a new generation of triple bottom line entrepreneurs.
“College students today want success and significance now,” said Caslin. “More than any generation before, they know that building a triple bottom line business focused on people, planet and profit is a radically pragmatic career path.”
Caslin believes that social entrepreneurs have two critical challenges. The first is to deliver a product or service that has a positive social impact. The second is to integrate the limited impact of that product or service with other efforts in order to achieve transformative scale that leads to Livable, Sustainable Communities.
“We each can combine value creation with the transformative power of entrepreneurship and strong social values,” added Caslin, “there is a great opportunity, in fact a mandate, before us to create a global movement that will truly transform the world at every level!"
Caslin is committed to the education of undergraduates in social entrepreneurship. In fact, The Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship, co-founded by Caslin, is pleased to announce new partnership opportunities with select colleges and universities. Through these partnerships, GCSE will facilitate the collaboration of faculty, students, alumni, practitioner-academics, practicing social entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurial philanthropists. Building on each school’s tradition of social and economic justice, GCSE will launch and scale for profit, nonprofit and public policy entrepreneurship.
GCSE announces this partnership opportunity at a pivotal moment for college students. With an increasing number of B.A.’s facing unemployment, underemployment, low-wage jobs and jobs that do not require a degree, partnering schools will be poised to give undergraduates a degree with impact.
“Undergraduates desire to create meaningful change and make money. Social entrepreneurship provides a career pathway to make this possible,” said Caslin’s colleague and Global Center for Social Entrepreneurship co-founder C.J. Meenan.
“We are excited to announce our partner program,” added Caslin. "Our goal is to help increase student recruitment and establish our partners as ‘thought and action’ leaders among other reputable institutions.”
