Web Governance provider, Siteimprove, and Deakin University plan to host a web accessibility learning event.

Web accessibility compliance is something that we’re very proud to champion. It’s important to consider every possible visitor to your site. With just a few minor changes you can see a huge improvement in the overall user experience of your site.

Siteimprove and Deakin University will be hosting an educational event to help Australian businesses improve their understanding of website accessibility standards. The event will also assist them in meeting the Australian Government mandate that all government funded websites adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA level of web accessibility by the end of 2014.

The term “Web Accessibility” refers to the process of creating a website which allows disabled users to more easily navigate and interact with the site’s content. Accessible design and functionality enable visually impaired users to navigate on-screen text, color-blind or dyslexic users to perceive content, physically impaired users to interact with content and media, and much more.

Recent reports state that 1 in 5 Internet users claims some form of disability, meaning 20% of as business’ potential audience could be negatively affected by poor web accessibility.

Deakin University uses the Siteimprove Web Governance Suite to monitor and manage their online presence, including web accessibility compliance.
