AAHOA Applauds McConnell and Boehner’s Focus on Full-Time Work Week
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 06, 2014 -- The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), applauds Sen. Mitch McConnell and Speaker John Boehner for publicly supporting the need to restore the definition of full-time employment to the traditional 40-hour work week.
Currently, the Affordable Care Act defines full-time employment as 30 hours of work per week, a definition that is harmful to employers, employees and the economy. By requiring employers to offer full-time health benefits to traditional part-time workers, the new healthcare law forces employers to make an economically unfeasible choice between cutting employee hours or reducing the number of employees.
In a joint column recently published in the Wall Street Journal, McConnell and Boehner promised to bring important, bipartisan bills to a vote, including a proposal to restore the traditional definition of a full-time worker.
“We applaud Senator McConnell and Speaker Boehner for taking this significant step toward a stronger economy with more jobs and more wages,” AAHOA Chairman Pratik Patel said. “As the largest hotel owners association in the world, AAHOA’s members have been negatively affected by the definition of a full-time worker under the new healthcare law, and we have been advocating for a revision.”
AAHOA is part of the More Time for Full Time initiative, which highlights the negative effects of the 30-hour work week definition under the Affordable Care Act. Other organizations that have joined the initiative include the National Restaurant Association, the International Franchise Association, the American Hotel and Lodging Association, the National Retail Federation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American Rental Association, the National Association of Convenience Stores, the National Grocers Association, the National Association of Theatre Owners and the Society for Human Resource Management.
AAHOA stands behind Sen. McConnell and Speaker Boehner as they lead the effort to restore fair standards for employers and fair hours for workers.
Founded in 1989, AAHOA is the largest hotel owners association in the world, with more than 13,500 small business owner-members.
