The National Military Family Association and Discovery Communications Team Up this Veterans Day to Honor the Families Who Serve Too
Alexandria, Virginia (PRWEB) November 07, 2014 -- The National Military Family Association (NMFA), a nonprofit that works to strengthen and protect military families, and Discovery Communications, the world’s #1 pay-TV programmer and parent company to iconic television brands such as Discovery Channel, TLC and the American Heroes Channel, are teaming up for three Veterans Day events in New York City to support military families. The events include a float in the annual “America’s Parade,” as well as a fundraiser reception and comedy show.
The 15th annual “America’s Parade” on Veterans Day, hosted and produced by the United War Veterans Council, features more than 600,000 spectators and is broadcast nationwide. This year’s parade will travel along the iconic 5th Avenue in New York City and feature more than 240 floats and 20,000 participants. Floats will include veterans groups, military units, universities, and youth groups. This is the first time NMFA has participated in America’s Parade. The NMFA and Discovery float will also host the winner of this year’s “My Hero Is” contest, Corey McCrea and his family from Memphis, NY. Corey won the nationwide contest by nominating his father as the military hero in his life.
NMFA and Discovery will also be hosting a fundraiser reception and comedy show to raise money for military families. The reception will feature musical guests, John Ed Auer and Matt Smith. The comedy show, at Gotham Comedy Club, will headline Dave Attell, Jim Gaffigan and Jamie Kaler. Active duty and veteran service members will be given discounted admission for both events.
“We are honored to participate in this parade, highlighting the families of our past, present and future veterans,” said Joyce Raezer, executive director of NMFA. “When a military member serves, their family serves too. Walking down 5th Avenue with military families is such a powerful statement—especially on Veterans Day.”
“Discovery Communications and our American Heroes Channel are committed to honoring those who have answered the call for service,” said David Zaslav, President and CEO, Discovery Communications. “As a company and a community, we are extremely proud to partner with the National Military Family Association for this year’s events to celebrate those who have served and the families who have supported them.”
”Discovery Communications is a proud supporter of military families and will play a role in the lives of military families in the years to come,” said Raezer. “We thank them for all of their support.”
