Cypress, CA (PRWEB) November 07, 2014 -- Veterans Day falls on Tuesday, November 11th, and Trident University International (Trident) will be acknowledging the holiday on several fronts this year. The University, which counts two-thirds of its current student population as active duty members of the United States Armed Forces or National Guard, also has veterans making up 29% of its faculty, management, and staff.
Trident will mark the holiday internally by acknowledging and thanking its employees who have served in any of the five branches. Additionally, yellow ribbons will be available for all employees to wear and a public lunch will be held for employees to commiserate with their veteran colleagues.
The University will also be hosting a clothing drive for homeless veterans and other veterans in need, donating these items directly to the Veterans Affairs of Long Beach, CA.
Externally, Trident will see its National Director of Military Relations, Philip F. Johndrow, take part in events hosted by Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio. Nationwide Insurance is a Trident University International education partner. Johndrow will deliver an inspirational speech to Nationwide’s veterans employee group, highlighting the organizational value of a veteran and the unique leadership skills that these talented men and women bring to the table.
“Veterans Day is a time to honor those who have served our nation. There is a common bond that they these men and women share, and that is an oath that they expressed in their willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice defending the United States. Let us take the time to thank every veteran you meet not just today but every day for protecting our freedom,” says Johndrow.
Johndrow is a 33-year veteran of the United States Army, retiring as the Command Sergeant Major for the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth. In this capacity Johndrow also served as the Command Sergeant Major for the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Joint Center for International Security Force Assistance.
In addition, Johndrow will take part in a Veterans Day parade hosted by Nationwide on November 7th.
Veterans Day is an annual holiday held on each November 11th to honor the contributions of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
