Giddings Nurse Honored as Nurse of the Year by Texas Health Care Association
Giddings, TX (PRWEB) November 09, 2014 -- Giddings Residence and Rehab is pleased to announce that Koneko Jackson, LVN, has been presented with the 2014 Nurse of the Year Award by the Texas Health Care Association (THCA) at their 2014 Annual Conference held in Dallas.
The Nurse of the Year Award is given every year to recognize outstanding nurses working in long term care facilities. Recipients are selected based on their innovative approach in dealing with resident and staff issues, and in the delivery of nursing care in the long term care setting. Nominees have shown a dedication to continued professional growth in the long term care nursing field.
Koneko Jackson is a Licensed Vocational Nurse who has been at Giddings for 18 years. She works primarily with residents suffering from Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia in the facility’s specialized Heritage Memory Care program. The Heritage program is offered in more than ten skilled nursing facilities throughout Texas and offers superior 24/7 care in an environment of exceptional dignity and comfort for seniors.
Koneko’s role includes understanding the physical changes that occur from the progression of dementia, as well as offering the emotional support residents require. Her ability to provide an individualized and empathic approach helps residents to lead happier, more dignified, and fulfilling lives.
Michelle Clemmons, Administrator of Giddings Residence, says, "This award is well deserved. Koneko is not only a highly skilled nurse, she is hardworking, compassionate, and a champion for residents' rights who touches many lives. All of our residents benefit from her devotion and dedication." The Director of Nursing at Giddings Residence, Debralee Williams, adds, "Koneko is detail-oriented and always quick to communicate with families and physicians to ensure her residents receive excellent care."
Sunny Woelfel is a nurse at Giddings Residence who works alongside Koneko. Her grandfather is also a resident living in the facility’s Heritage wing. "There is no greater comfort than knowing Koneko is caring for my grandfather,” explains Sunny. “She truly makes a difference every day."
The entire Giddings family is proud of Koneko's achievement earning the 2014 Nurse of the Year Award.
