Announcing the On-Stage Crowning Moment Retirement and Renaming of the Miss California USA and Teen Legacy Crowns by Peter Young of INTA Gems & Diamonds
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 13, 2014 -- With a heart of celebration, we are announcing the on-stage crowning moment retirement and renaming of the Miss California USA and Miss California Teen USA Crowns by Peter Young of INTA Gems & Diamonds.
The 2015 CA USA state titleholders and all future USA system titleholders will be crowned with the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) state issued crowns that all state titleholders wear.
The re-naming is also meant to distinguish them from the MUO state issued crowns worn by all state titleholders in the USA system. The two unique California crowns will have “Legacy” added to their original names and the year 2010-2015 to help identify them in future photoshoots and planned speaking events.
Their new official names:
The Miss California USA Legacy Crown 2010-2015 (MCAUSALC 2010-15)
The Miss California Teen USA Legacy Crown 2010-2015 (MCATUSALC 2010-15)
They will also be referred to as “The Legacy Crown” and the “The Legacy Teen Crown”
Jerry Young, President of INTA Gems & Diamonds said, “We have been very honored to have been chosen to be the one and only Official Crown Jeweler for Miss California USA between 2010 to 2015. We would like to thank the Miss Universe Organization and everybody a part of and who has been a part of the Miss California USA Organization for all of their incredible support over the years. We are very proud of the fact that the Legacy Crowns have been involved in the success of the state pageant and its titleholders. Although the crowns will no longer be seen at the crowning moment, we are looking forward to continued work with the future California state titleholders with the Legacy Crowns.”
The Legacy Crown was introduced in 2010 after the Miss USA 2009 gay marriage on-stage question and answer controversy, Peter Young of INTA Gems & Diamonds was commissioned to design new crowns for the California state pageant. Within the Legacy Crowns there are many elements that represent the beauty of California including sun, stars, waves and coastline. At the center of the crowns, there is a heart because Young, who is gay, wanted a message of love, unity and the beauty of California spoken during a time controversy and division.
In 2011, Young designed the Legacy Teen Crown and dedicated it to the Love is Louder anti-bullying movement started by actress Brittany Snow, MTV and the Jed Foundation. The Legacy Teen Crown has been credited for helping to start the anti-bullying message and conversation that is now common in most teen state pageant across the nation.
Peter Young, Creative Director of INTA Gems & Diamonds and designer of the Legacy Crowns said, “It has been a joy working with the Directors, titleholders, contestants, sponsors and fans of the Miss California USA Organization. I feel so incredibly blessed to have been given the opportunity to not only design two California crowns, but also to know that they have spread the message of love, respect and responsibility. Prop 8 is overturned and the Love Is Louder anti-bullying message is now woven into the system which helps many people remember the love at the center of their lives. I feel that the crowns have taken a front and center stand on the pageant stage and at speaking engagements with civil and human rights in California. Although the Legacy Crowns will be retired from the California crowning moment, I’m glad to see them remain a visual representation of history that is so important to many of us.”
Young hopes his crowns remain a symbol and a teaching tool to encourage and younger generations to treat each other with kindness and respect. There have been talks of the crowns going on tour and one day a part of a museum collection so their stories retold and never forgotten.
Since their introduction in 2010, the Legacy Crowns became an anomaly in the pageant world as no other state in the MUO/USA system had unique state crowns of their own. There were many who questioned their existence and why California state titleholders were crowned with a different state crown. They achieved further national recognition with the wins by CA state titleholders who wore the crowns; Alyssa Campanella, Miss California USA 2011 who won Miss USA 2011 and Cassidy Wolf, Miss California Teen USA 2013 who won Miss Teen USA 2013.
The official MUO state crowns will return to crown the new 2015 Miss California USA and Teen USA on January 11, 2015 in Long Beach. Nonetheless, the 2015 California titleholders and subsequent winners will continue to use the Legacy Crowns for speaking engagements and photoshoots during their year.
Pam Wilson, Co-Director of Miss California USA said, “We are proud to have had INTA Gems & Diamonds as our official jeweler for a decade and our official crown jeweler for the past 5 years. We are glad to continue our wonderful relationship. INTA Gems & Diamonds’ designs have had a significant impact in the California pageant system, but on the pageant system as a whole.”
Alex Kuty, Co-Director of Miss California USA added, “INTA Gems had done amazing work for our titleholders. Although the Legacy Crowns will be retired from on-stage usage, we are glad to see INTA Gems & Diamonds remain as our official jeweler who will be providing the official crown rings for our 2015 titleholders.”
So far, a total of twelve California state titleholders have worn the Legacy Crowns. Cassandra Kunze, Miss California USA 2014, and Bianca Vierra, Miss California Teen USA 2014, will have the distinction of being the last state titleholders to be crowned on-stage with the Legacy Crowns by INTA Gems & Diamonds.

I know all the titleholders feel strongly connected with one another because of it. In the future, I look forward to sharing the meaning of the crowns with all. I thank the INTA Gems & Diamonds family and especially Peter Young for sharing his vision. Let’s not look at this moment of retirement as an end but rather a beginning of an incredibly powerful message to share with others across the US.
