“As mobile sales continue to expand dramatically, understanding both the concerns of retailers and their capability to protect themselves from fraud is critical to our global economy." - Don Bush, VP of Marketing, Kount
Boise, ID; Newburyport, MA; and Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) November 10, 2014
Celebrating its third year, the largest survey focused exclusively on fraud and the mobile channel is now open to online merchants, service providers, payment processors, acquirers, card associations and issuers. Conducted again by Kount, Inc., The Fraud Practice LLC, and CardNotPresent.com, the mobile fraud survey offers participants early access to industry insights and trends presented in a comprehensive report before its public release late in the first quarter of 2015.
Last year nearly 2,000 participants shared their insights on mobile strategy, fraud concerns and the tools or plans in place to defend against fraud, including merchants of all sizes across the globe. Of the 1,000 merchants participating, more than half reported annual revenues exceeding $50 million.
Notable merchant insights from last year’s survey included:
- Mobile commerce doubled year over year, accounting for 20% of overall business
- 66% of merchants surveyed now actively support mobile – up by 30% year over year
- Nearly half of merchants have a dedicated mobile website
- The number of merchants offering a mobile app for online shopping more than doubled to 54%
- Nearly a third of all merchants consider mobile as riskier than standard e-commerce
- The number of merchants who believe mobile-specific fraud prevention is increasingly necessary nearly doubled, accounting for almost a third of all merchants surveyed
- Despite these concerns, only 34.2% of merchants were able to detect the specific type of mobile device, a decrease from 2013
“The mobile fraud survey provides tremendous insights to every business that operates online and anyone working in the payments industry,” said Don Bush, vice president of Marketing at Kount. “As mobile sales continue to expand dramatically, understanding both the concerns of retailers and their capability to protect themselves from fraud is critical to our global economy. We encourage all online businesses and payments experts to participate in the survey so everyone can benefit by being better informed about the risks and rewards of mobile commerce.”
