Vanguard University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Named in Orange County’s Hot 25
Costa Mesa, CA (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- Dr. Doretha O’Quinn, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Vanguard University, was announced in the November issue of OC Metro Magazine’s Hot 25 list, alongside southern California business leaders, entrepreneurs and educators. Dr. O’Quinn, one of the university’s newest administrators, has spent over 34 years working in education of all levels.
“Every year, OC Metro magazine culls through hundreds of names to find the people making an indelible impact on Orange County, and the wider world,” said Heather Skyler, managing editor of OC Register Metro magazine. “This year, the Hot 25 celebrates it's 25th year in print, and the list is impressive: there's a beloved athlete, a world renowned musician, a museum director, a comedy writer, a comedienne, inspiring educators - such as Dr. Doretha O'Quinn - entrepreneurs, inventors, and more.”
In the magazine’s feature, Dr. O’Quinn credits her passion for leadership to her school years, where opportunities in school and church led to mentoring and eventually training other leaders across the globe. From summers in Ethiopia equipping young leaders, to working with college students in Orange County, Dr. O’Quinn says, “integrity, plus hard work, having a vision and knowledge of your purpose, and a love for people” are what make a great leader.”
In addition to being mentioned in the OC Metro publication this month, Dr. O’Quinn is known as an award-winning teacher, speaker, administrator, and published author, as well as “Outstanding African-American Educator of the Year.” Her own education was achieved in southern California – receiving a B.A. from Life Pacific College of San Dimas, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from Biola University.
“Being "hot" in O.C. is no small feat,” continued Skyler, “some of the most important businesses and individuals in the country got their start right here."
Dr. O’Quinn currently works closely with President Dr. Michael J. Beals, in the leadership of all academic programs, promoting Vanguard’s distinctive academic excellence which integrates faith and life. Supporting the undergraduate, graduate and adult degree completion faculty at the institution, Dr. O’Quinn’s direction has made a big impact in just a short amount of time since her start in July 2014.
