New Kauffman ‘Thoughtbook’ Explores Ideas That Drive Progress through Education, Entrepreneurship
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- Prepare to get fired up about the future. The 2015 Kauffman Thoughtbook, released today by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, captures thoughts, ideas and discoveries made by Foundation leaders, partners and other experts about how education and entrepreneurship are driving growth and progress in the economy and our increasingly global society. How the Foundation is working in its hometown of Kansas City also is featured content in the book.
Sixth in an ongoing series, the 2015 Kauffman Thoughtbook is entirely digital for the first time, showcasing dynamic multimedia content to engage readers and make its material accessible to more fans of education, entrepreneurship and local Kansas City issues. Its collection of essays, interviews, photos and videos share Foundation ideas, programs, initiatives and partnerships that have grown around the principles and mission of the organization’s founder, Ewing Kauffman.
“Ewing Kauffman’s goal was to fundamentally improve human lives by enabling people to do more for themselves and society,” said Wendy Guillies, Kauffman Foundation acting president and CEO. “The challenge now is to take our work to the next level in changing times, while preserving his original intent. The Thoughtbook presents our platform for the future while remaining true to our founder’s purpose.”
Leading off with an overview of the Foundation’s new strategic direction, coauthored by Guillies and Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman Janice Kreamer, the more than 35 essays that follow explore current and emerging issues related to entrepreneurship and youth education. The final chapter highlights Kauffman’s work in Kansas City in a section titled, “Our Launching Pad.”
In addition to Foundation program and subject matter experts, several guest authors contributed essays, such as:
• Brad Feld, author of Startup Communities: Building an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Your City and co-founder of Techstars
• Jeff Chapman, director of economic development, state fiscal health and economic growth for The Pew Charitable Trusts
• Katherine K. Merseth, Harvard Graduate School of Education
• Elizabeth Kautz, Mayor of the City of Burnsville, Minn., and former president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors
Sample topics include:
• Strategies for closing education gaps and how cities can foster innovative ecosystems
• Innovative strategies for developing teacher quality to help students make the grade
• First-hand accounts of life at a charter school from students attending the Ewing Marion Kauffman School
• Insights on building entrepreneurship ecosystems from on-the-ground community leaders and entrepreneurship experts
