Top-Ranked Public Safety, Wireless Communications and in-building Wireless Systems Provider Installs Communications Solutions at DC Water's Blue Plains Facility.

Morcom International, Inc., a top-ranked provider of public safety, wireless communications and in-building wireless systems has recently been awarded a contract by DC Water to build and install a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) in the underground tunnels at the water provider's Blue Plains Waste Water Treatment Plant. Based in Chantilly, VA, Morcom International designs, supplies, installs and supports airport and radio communications, critical communications, and weather information systems.

“We are excited to work with DC Water to provide this communications solution to their facility,” said Manuel Ojeda, CEO of Morcom. “Boosting signal strength via a network of antennae is essential for public safety and critical communications in facilities such as these.”

Morcom will be tasked with installing DAS in the 6 miles of tunnels running beneath the facility. The Blue Plains Advanced Waste Water Treatment Plant is the largest advanced wastewater treatment plant in the world, serving over 2 million customers in the Washington DC metro area, covering 150 acres and maintaining a capacity of 370 million gallons per day (MGD), with a peak capacity of 1.07 billion gallons per day (BGD). Once installed, the DAS will enable clear communications for public safety and administrative task forces within the Blue Plains facility’s underground tunnels and galleries.

During the summer of 2014, DC Water's Blue Plains Advanced Waste Water implemented a process called thermal hydrolysis to generate power for the plant. The procedure involves extracting methane from human waste or "biosolids" in the wastewater, and burning the methane to generate power. The Blue Plains facility is the first of its kind in North America. This highly-efficient process is anticipated to cut the average water bill in Washington DC by one-third.

Morcom International commenced operations in 1984. Since, the company has become the leader in the public safety, defense, wireless communications, weather information systems, and navigation fields. Morcom International was featured on the Top Fastest-Growing Private Companies in 2008 by Inc.com for its 241% growth and client base expansion.
