Cuckolds Light Station Joins Boothbay Treasures for Giving Tuesday
Southport, Maine (PRWEB) November 14, 2014 -- The Cuckolds Light Station Council has joined more than two dozen nonprofit organizations from the Boothbay region, and organizations across the country, to encourage a spirit of giving in the midst of the busy holiday shopping season.
The group, calling itself Boothbay Treasures, is encouraging people throughout the region to designate Tuesday, December 2nd as a day to celebrate generosity and to support nonprofit organizations that contribute to the life and vitality of the community. The nationwide effort, called #GivingTuesday, is scheduled to occur immediately after Black Friday, November 28, and Cyber Monday, December 1, the biggest in-store and online shopping days of the year for retailers across the country.
“We are honored to be part of a community with such a generous spirit and so many treasured organizations that make this a wonderful place to live, work and play,” said Janet Reingold, spokesperson for the Cuckolds Council. “Giving Tuesday is a great way to acknowledge and support the many ways nonprofits enrich the quality of life for year-round residents and visitors alike.”
The Cuckolds Light Station Council is a 501(c)(3) organization formed by a group of local citizens to rescue, restore and preserve the historic 1892 fog signal and light station. Donations to the organization are tax deductible and help the Council carry out its mission of preserving and sharing the rich history of the Cuckolds Light Station, which has played an integral role in the region’s maritime history and economic development for well over a century. The Council plans to offer tours of the island and the lighthouse starting next summer, providing public access for the first time in history. They are also developing onsite and online exhibits to engage the public on this important piece of the region’s heritage. Tour schedules will be published on the website in Spring 2015.
In this season of giving, and giving thanks, please consider making a contribution to the Cuckolds Light Station. All contributions are tax deductible. Please make check payable to: Cuckolds Light and mail to: P.O.Box 117, Southport, ME 04576. Thank you in advance for your consideration!
